It’s one of those “you don’t really expect it until it happens” moments. I led a fairly active life, so a little dryness or occasional heel pain didn’t seem like a big deal. After all, being on your feet all day takes its toll — I thought it was just part of life.
But then the cracks deepened, the skin started splitting, and every step began to sting. I figured I just needed a few days of rest, maybe a heavier cream… not realizing I was dealing with severe skin dehydration and chronic heel fissures. Honestly, it was scary. My feet weren’t just dry — they were damaged. Questions kept racing through my mind:
Would I still be able to take that trip I’d been looking forward to next month?
Could I enjoy my morning walks, or would the pain just keep getting worse?
Was this something I’d have to live with — dry, cracked heels that only got more painful over time?
When the pain wasn’t keeping me up at night, those thoughts definitely were.
